Together, We Can Support Ukraine

by Jews for Jesus |March 03 2022

There are 19 Jews for Jesus mission staff and their families who serve in Kyiv and Odessa and have been on the front lines of the war in Ukraine.

These staff and their families have witnessed horrific violence and have been subject to constant missile bombardment. Most have been displaced from their homes. One family has lodged with 17 other people also in need of shelter. Others are safe but are lacking the basic necessities. Another has been terribly sick with COVID.

Amid all this, they continue to love and serve their Jewish people. They continue to call and pray with those they can reach. A regular Zoom meeting has been established for Ukrainian believers to lift one another up in prayer.

Odessa branch leader Leonid Vasserman shared this report:

We continue to serve. A few days ago, one missionary prayed together with a Jewish man, a retired 99-year-old colonel, who wanted to embrace Jesus as his Messiah. Praise God!

From Kyiv, branch leader Anatoli Emma shares:

Today, I called a very elderly lady, 95 years old, and she hadn’t eaten for four days as social services hadn’t yet resumed their work since the war started. One of our staff went immediately to bring her food and to show her care.

Please pray for safety in the midst of the conflict for

  • safe housing,

  • the congregations of Jewish believers to whom we have been ministering,

  • unbelieving Jewish people that our staff continue to share with, and

  • the families struggling to be reunited with one another.

Our ministry is setting aside resources to help these staff and their families navigate these difficult days.

Some of the needs include:

  • safe housing

  • reliable transportation

  • liquid cash on hand for emergencies

As these staff continue to serve, they also need resources to

  • help groups of women and children to evacuate,

  • connect refugees to badly needed support, and

  • continue to proclaim the hope found in the gospel.

If God has put it on your heart to help, here you can give a special gift to help meet these needs. Please reference For Ukraine.

Thank you so much for standing together with our staff in Ukraine through this dark time. We know the Lord is in control. He gave these comforting words to another Jewish community in the midst of crisis:

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
