Uniting Jewish Community in Australia
by Rebekah Bronn, Sydney
The war in Israel and rising antisemitism around the world is a very hard reality, but through it we are seeing doors open in a new way into the Jewish community of Sydney.
Rebekah, who serves in our Sydney branch, shares, "Along with my Christian housemates, I have opened my home to Israeli travellers for fellowship and Shabbat dinners. It is so heartening to hear the Israelis express thankfulness to have a place to gather and feel safe. It also provides many opportunities to share with them about our faith.
Omri* is an Israeli who has been coming to our Shabbat dinners for the past few months. He asks a lot of questions about our belief in Jesus as the Messiah and its connection to the Tanach (Old Testament). When one of my Christian friends explained to Omri that the Messiah had to come to die and related it to the Passover lamb, Omri said that he finally understood and that it made sense."
The Jewish community in Sydney has been organising many gatherings to stand against antisemitism and for the release of the hostages. Our team has been joining these, volunteering at events and inviting Christian friends along.
Please pray for Omri and others like him as we continue to open our homes and build relationships with our Jewish community.
